UNLAWFUL KILLING OF BARROW SOLDIER.

A BARROW soldier died in Iraq after his tent took a direct mortar hit from insurgents.A coroner in Barrow today ruled that medic Lance Corporal Dennis Brady, 37, was unlawfully killed in Basra in October 2006.During an emotional inquest attended by his family and colleagues, it emerged L/Cpl Brady, a regular reservist in the Royal Army Medical Corps, was in full body armour when the shell hit his tent.He was killed by one of 15 mortar shells to hit his partly fortified army compound at the Shaat Al Arab Hotel in Basra City.Medic Staff Sergeant Garry Crooks, of the Royal Army Medical Corps was in the tent with L/Cpl Brady when the mortar hit and was also injured in the blast. He told the inquest: “When I got to the accommodation quarter Dennis had his helmet and body armour on. We suffered a pretty direct hit.”He was flown by helicopter to the nearby British Medical Hospital but died a short time after the attack.Read it Here

(RG) “Den, was in full body armour when the shell hit his tent.” Den was a friend of mine and he loved being a soldier and especially a medic helping others but I feel he was let down by the fact he was in a `tent` this is a War situation not a boy scout trip and all our troops in Iraq & Afghanistan deserve much better protection. RIP.
