The family of a British soldier left crippled by fighting in Afghanistan has attacked a new Government compensation deal for injured troops and may continue legal action to secure a higher payout.
Des Browne, the Defence Secretary, today announced changes to ensure that the most seriously injured soldiers are eligible for more money.
But the Ministry of Defence stopped short of offering soldiers the same compensation payouts as those on offer to civilians, who are eligible for payments of up to £500,000. Payouts to troops remain capped at £285,000. Read It Here

Surgeon Commander
Rick Jolly OBE commanded the Falklands Field Hospital in 1982, and was also decorated by the Argentines for the treatment of their wounded.
(RG) It seems that this Labour Government considers our brave men and woman in the armed forces `lesser ` people than their civilian counterparts and continue to treat them with utter contempt. I can see a time in the not to distant future unless with have nothing short of a political revolution in the Former Great Britain when the Government has no option than to bring back conscription. Personally I am against this unless we are in time of World War. The respect is completely gone from the many rampaging feral youths that terrorise our neighbourhoods and you must be very naïve to believe that an old fashioned seargent major with a handlebar moustache and a loud voice can knock them into shape, they would be just as likely to stab him and run away, like many police officers on the streets of the UK are stabbed and assaulted on a daily basis. We need a strong Government an a zero tolerance policy and before you say `The prisons are full` then I say deport the tens of thousands of foreign criminals in our prison system and build more jails using convict labour. Extreme times call for extreme measures. The way our Armed Forces are treated at home and respected in general reflects on the society we all live in at the moment all they are worth are a few filthy towels and rags to hide their modesty when injured in War.

The other option is for everyone to become a typist, then just think of the compo they would get for those nasty office injuries that are lurking out there waiting to get people. You couldn't make it up, but then you don't have to.
