Patrol Base Sparta in pictures and music

Soldiers from Patrol Base Sparta show their ingenuity and resourcefulness in making austere locations liveable. Between shifts on guard duty and patrols supporting the Afghan National Security Forces, these soldiers find time to relax in their meagre surroundings. Rifleman Luthmailagi happened to be playing his guitar when the Combat Camera Team visited and they managed to record him playing whilst relaxing with his fellow troops. Returning British Soldiers See Afghanistan Progress

I just wonder what this area will look like when ISAF leave for good? I think the Taliban are just playing the waiting game and like a bad disease will return.

Afghanistan release 250 Taliban militants from jails and put our troops at more risk.

The Afghan government released 80 Taliban militants from Pul-e-Charkhi prison in eastern part of capital Kabul. According to officials around 67 of the freed Taliban militants were arrested by US troops in connection to insurgency activities against the Afghan government and were previously kept in Bagram prison which was recently handed over to Afghan security forces.  This just shows how terrified the Afghan Government are of the Taliban and the eventual withdrawal of ISAF forces, will Afghanistan be a safer place when we are gone or a breeding ground for more off shoots of Al Qaeda?

It is with great sadness that the Ministry of Defence must announce that a soldier from 3rd Battalion The Parachute Regiment was killed in Afghanistan on Saturday 5th February 2011. The soldier was deployed on an operation to interdict insurgents when he was struck by an improvised explosive device . Read More Here RIP

It is with great sadness that the Ministry of Defence must announce that a soldier from 1st Battalion The Royal Irish Regiment was killed in Afghanistan on Friday 4th February 2011. The soldier died as a result of an operational accident that is now under investigation. Read More Here RIP

Soldier From Royal Signals Killed In Afghanistan

It is with deep regret that the Ministry of Defence must announce that a soldier from 216 Parachute Signal Squadron, Royal Corps of Signals, was killed in Afghanistan on Tuesday, 21 December 2010. The soldier died as a result of wounds sustained when the vehicle in which he was travelling came into contact with an improvised explosive device. Read More Here RIP
