Special Forces in Falklands threat as 'Argentines may seize the tiny island

Defence chiefs have been warned an elite unit could be sent to occupy one of the 700 tiny isles around Britain’s main South Atlantic territory
Argentinian special forces are feared to be preparing to land in the Falkland Islands.

Defence chiefs have been warned an elite unit could be sent to occupy one of the 700 tiny isles around Britain’s main South Atlantic territory.

An Argentinian landing could spark an international incident 33 years after the Falklands War.

The alert comes days after it emerged Russian President Vladimir Putin had agreed to lend 12 long-range bombers to the South American country.

The Sukhoi SU-24 jets are being sent to Argentina in exchange for beef and wheat to dodge EU sanctions over Ukraine.

President Cristina Kirchner backs the country’s claim to the Falklands and has vowed to fight for sovereignty.

UK Government chiefs have unveiled a £280million reinforcement strategy for the next 10 years to defend the islands.

A Whitehall source said: “Ministers have been advised of the concern and will send helicopters next year.Read more   HERE

Five Nato troops have been killed after a UK helicopter crashed in southern Afghanistan, the Ministry of Defence has said.

Officials have not confirmed the nationalities of those on board, but it is believed they are British.

The MoD said the crash is under investigation, but said enemy action is not believed to be the cause.

It is the first fatal accident involving a UK military helicopter in Afghanistan since the conflict began.

The crash happened near Kandahar air base, in Kandahar province.

A Ministry of Defence spokesman said: "We can confirm that a UK helicopter crashed in southern Afghanistan today.

Soldiers 'marched to death' during SAS selection

We are Pilgrims, master: we shall go
Always a little further: it may be
Beyond that last blue mountain barred with snow
Across that angry or that glimmering sea.

French Special Forces troops stage Niger raid

France French National Flag

NIAMEY (AFP) - French special forces and local troops raided an army base Friday in northern Niger, ending a hostage seizure by Islamist fighters who had staged twin suicide bombings that killed at least 20 people. The dawn raid came after Signatories in Blood, a jihadist group that claimed Thursday's blasts, threatened to continue attacking Niger until the country withdraws its forces from neighbouring Mali, where they are part of a French-led military campaign against Al-Qaeda-linked Islamists. A French defence ministry official said two "terrorists" had been killed in the raid on a building at the Agadez army base, where Islamist fighters had holed up after the bombings and were holding a group of trainee soldiers hostage. An elected official in Agadez, the main city in Niger's mostly desert north, gave a higher toll, saying three "terrorists" and three hostages had been killed, as well as a civilian caught in the cross-fire. Niger's government did not confirm those numbers, while the French official said the toll was preliminary. Nigerien authorities would not say how many hostages had been taken. French Defence Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian confirmed France had taken part in the raid. "The situation has stabilised as we speak, especially in Agadez, where our special forces intervened to back the Niger forces," he said on France's BFMTV. Read More HERE

Britain's Special Forces Support Group (SFSG) 600 jobs to be axed.

Britain's Special Forces Support Group (SFSG) is to lose 600 roles, prompting fears that it will hamper the fighting capability of elite units such as the SAS.The Ministry of Defence has drawn up plans to restructure the SFSG which was expanded to cope with the demands of the the war on terror, reports the Sun.The SFSG provide logistical and intelligence support to elite units and the MoD believe there is no longer the demand as troops are gradually withdrawn from Afghanistan. We may very well be withdrawing the bulk of our troops from Afghanistan next year, but a significant number of UK Special Forces will remain in a Country that will be reoccupied by the Taliban if not even more off shoots of Al Qaeda  Government will not comment on Special Forces , and rightly so, but you can guarantee that there will be a significant SF force in Mali. The War on terror is not a computer game and we switch the `Lets come home` button , job done on Global Jihad. This Government is already masacreing the British Army and wasting millions on a second aircraft carrier that will be mothballed as soon as its built, to be fair this is a result of a Labour Government  spending money they never had. We need Special Forces now more than ever as we seem to want to fight Wars on a budget with part timers, its a shame we cant sack 600 MPs and replace them with sane and uncoruptable people, its Ironic that when Cameron is waltzing around Africa dishing out foreign aid and our `military advisers` that its the SAS that's watching his back.
