Falkland Islands given medal for showing 'indomitable will' during Argentine invasion

THE Falkland Islands has collectively been awarded a medal today in recognition of their 'indomitable will' during the Argentine invasion.The archipelago were today honoured for the "personal commitment" they showed in defending their right of self-determination during the 1982 war. The South Atlantic medal was handed to almost 30,000 troops and civilians who served in the operation to liberate the Falklands from Argentine forces. Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond said: "I am pleased to inform the House that in 2015 the South Atlantic Medal will be presented, on behalf of Her Majesty The Queen, to the Falkland Islands, in recognition of the assistance provided to the Forces of the United Kingdom during the liberation of the Islands in 1982. "The Islanders' individual acts of courage exemplified the indomitable will and personal commitment to defending the Islands' right of self determination." (RG) Some people will be happy with this award, some particularly those that hate the Tories will say Cameron is using it for his political means leading up to a General Election. I like many are extremely disillusioned with politics in the UK, but I think this award is a good thing, the Islanders deserve this award. I also think a medal should be awarded to all servicemen that have served their Country, particularly in the cold War era, like the awards the Australian military get, but that’s another story. I sure the Argentine Government will have a moan about this but that’s nothing new.

UK DEFENCE CUTS REALLY STARTING TO HURT THE ARMY

A petition calling on the Prime Minister to compensate service personnel made compulsorily redundant close to pension point.

Between them they have served in Northern Ireland, Bosnia, Kosovo, Sierra Leone, Iraq and Afghanistan, now just before they qualify for their military pension, they have been made redundant.

The group, calling themselves Pension Justice for Troops, say the military pension is the key financial promise on which service personnel are recruited, retained and promoted. It is what they have relied on to plan their families' financial future. 

That's why they have started a petition calling on the Prime Minister to compensate service personnel made compulsorily redundant close to pension point.

Last week Jolene Anderson started a petition because her husband was being made redundant just three days before qualifying for his pension. 100,000 people signed her petition and within two days the Ministry of Defence responded to say her husband had been successful in his transfer request and his redundancy stalled.

The public support for Jolene's petition has inspired the group to campaign for David Cameron to review the situation for all soldiers made redundant just shy of receiving their pensions. The group said "it is a betrayal of the loyalty we have shown the Government to be cast aside so close to this significant financial milestone of service."

Regimental rivalries prevented the development of a troop-carrying tank like the Israeli Merkava ('chariot' in Hebrew) where the heaviness of the tank turret and tracks provides additional protection to the infantrymen in the back – up to six of them. The Israelis even have a version fitted for medical evacuation, the 'tankbulance'. Prime minister David Cameron will meet with the Afghan and Pakistani presidents tonight for the latest talks aimed at preventing a Taliban resurgence when British troops pull out.Mr Cameron will welcome Hamid Karzai and Asif Ali Zardari at Chequers for dinner as part of the third trilateral session since last summer. Tomorrow they will focus on how the Pakistani and international community can support the Afghan-led peace process when Nato troops leave next year. Defence chief signals major UK military presence in Gulf

British troops and strike aircraft are to be based in the Gulf as part of the most significant new deployment of UK armed forces since Afghanistan. The return to "east of Suez" was signalled by General Sir David Richards in the chief of defence staff's annual Christmas lecture at the Royal United Services Institute in London on Monday evening. His speech was highly significant. It follows from what the Obama administration has been telling the Europeans — they have got to take more responsibility looking after the security interests not only of their own continent but those in the Middle East and Gulf. CONTROVERSIAL NEW MOVIE TO BE MADE ABOUT THE WAR IN LIBYA

This new controversial take on the ongoing War in Libya is a story of one British Prime Ministers love of an opposition politician and the drastic steps he is willing to take to take revenge upon a Middle Eastern Dictator who he feels has stolen the love of his life. After watching secret MI6 tapes of the then Former British Prime Minister making love in a tent with the dictator in Tripoli he sets about in his all consuming revenge mission to kill his rival and destroy his Country and take his oil. Knowing the British public would not fall for the lies of WMD (Weapons of mass destruction) he goes down the humanitarian lie route, and manages to get the security council to impose a resolution upon his love rival to enable him to take military action. The film is a very dark portrayal of a scitsofrenic  British Prime minister that is Socialist in mind and Conservative in his dress sense. Alarm bells start to ring in Whitehall when he wants to arm the Al Qaeda lead rebels and use the SAS to assassinate his love rival. This low budget movie was filmed exclusively on location on Brighton Beach and some shady massage parlours in the town Tomahawks over Tripoli  is being put forward for and award at the  Cannes Film Festival later this year, although it has been heavily criticized by the critics many Liberal Democrats have now come out in support of their leader.

I would not recommend this movie.
