Falklands and Iraq 'intelligence failures'

The Argentine invasion of the Falkland Islands in 1982 was caused by a "failure of intelligence" equal to that leading up to the invasion of Iraq, according to Lord Carrington, who resigned as Foreign Secretary for his role in allowing the Falklands to be invaded.
As the crisis over the Falklands developed in the early spring, Lord Carrington, who as Foreign Secretary had overall responsibility for Britain's Secret Intelligence Service, was told by intelligence chiefs that Gen Galtieri, the Argentine dictator, had no immediate plans to invade. Read It Here

(RG) The difference between the Falklands war and Iraq is huge moraly and militarily. In war your soldiers die wherever the conflict may be, but in my opinion the British deaths and casualties in the Falklands were sad but worth it. The Falklands is a British Sovereign Territory and certainly has no weapons of mass destruction (WMD). As the Argentines were the invaders in 1982 so we are the invaders to some in the Arab world in this decade. But we did send out the wrong signals back in 1982 and could have prevented the invasion, our Government at the time was far to arrogant and assumed no body would have the balls to have a crack at the UK.
