The name says it all: For more than 70 years the soldiers of Britain’s Parachute Regiment have been prepared to risk their all by dropping into the toughest of war zones.

But now cost cutting means the Paras will no longer be trained to use their chutes, the Mail on Sunday can reveal.

The regiment, whose most famous sortie during the Second World War was immortalised in the film A Bridge Too Far, has been targeted by Ministry of Defence accountants keen to reduce budgets.Until now, all recruits joining the 1,500-strong regiment have undergone intensive parachute training, including a requirement to complete eight jumps before being considered ready for battle.Soldiers have had to do at least two refresher jumps each year of their service to ensure that they remain fully trained for drops behind enemy lines.Now, just a handful of recruits will receive parachute training and hundreds of more experienced Paratroopers will not do the annual jumps required to keep them battle-ready.Former Parachute Regiment officer Dan Jarvis, now a Labour MP, revealed that parachuting is being phased out and in future most recruits will not see a chute or receive specialist airborne training.Read More HERE  if you can bring yourself.



Some may argue that Parachuting into War is out dated and its better to use helicopters (Like Vietnam) I disagree. Look what an asset the French Foreign Legion Paras were in their lightening drop over Mali, rapid deployment that makes a statement, a show of strength, backed up by the toughest troop of any military using airborne forces. I never had a red beret but I respect all those that have won the right to wear one and the wings on their shoulder.If this is a cost cutting measure then its a mistake, if they want to save money, stop our ridiculous overseas aid budget and don't build the second aircraft carrier that apparently will be automatically mothballed, not to mention mass immigration and the health care and housing costs, this really is a `cut to far`, the British army is fast becoming a militia.

David Cameron buys six new submarines

Its an old saying but Charity really does begin at home. David Cameron would obviously deny that he has just helped Pakistan buy six new submarines with his very generous £650 million hand out of British tax payers money, but that’s what most rational British people are thinking today.  Like India there is no doubt that there is poverty in Pakistan , but surely their own Governments should be held responsible for some of it. If they can afford Nuclear weapons and an army navy and air force bigger than ours and splash out on six new Chinese submarines then there is something morally and from our point of view economically wrong with their Country. At a time when the UK is facing the most sever cuts since world war two, Cameron not only angers the whole Country with massive payments to dodgy Governments he actually increases the overseas aid budget. Our Royal Navy is little more than a coastal defence force at the moment and we would struggle to say the least if Argentina was to try to invade the Falklands again , luckily Argentina is skint as well. Yes we have Nuclear weapons but we would never use them unless we were actually hit with one first in my opinion. So Trident is useless against most threats we face today including the defence of the Falklands. To simplify things I believe we should run our Country as we would run our own households. Imagine if you were hard up but managed to save for years for a family trip to Disney land and a week before you are about to go, your Father decides that he has donated all of the holiday money to a family down the road who spend most of their time selling and using drugs and committing vandalism including damaging your car and assaulting you sister? Doesn’t make any sense does it, well that’s how angry Cameron is making the ordinary people of great Britain feel. If Gordon Brown was Prime Minister (Remember him) I would not have been surprised at all at these type of decisions, but you would expect better from a so called Conservative Prime Minister. The truth is if their was an election tomorrow he would be toast and Labour would win with a landslide and be in power for the next decade and so the cycle continues. Even if Mickey Mouse himself was in charge of this crumbling Country he would make sure his buddy Pluto and his missus Minnie were living well before splashing the cash on others. Never mind Disney Cloud Cuckoo comes to mind with tweedle dum and tweedle dummer in charge.

The Royal navy reduced to a small coastal defence force , the Royal Air force    reduced to a Sunday afternoon glider club, veterans sleeping rough on out streets after fighting for their Country in Afghanistan and Iraq, whilst illegal immigrants are welcomed with open arms and cash and houses lavished upon them. Remember next time you tighten your belt that Cameron is giving £1 billion   of your tax money to India , a Country that has a huge military nuclear weapons and yes you heard it right a Space Program.
