British Soldier from 3rd Battalion The Mercian Regiment killed in Afghanistan

It is with sadness that the Ministry of Defence must announce the death of a soldier from the 3rd Battalion The Mercian Regiment (Staffords), on 5 November 2013 in Helmand Province, Afghanistan.The serviceman was killed in action as a result of an explosion during a vehicle-borne suicide attack, which occurred during a patrol in the Kamparak area, 40km north east of the provincial capital Lashkar Gah.Spokesman for Task Force Helmand, Lieutenant Colonel Hywel Lewis MBE said; A hugely experienced soldier has tragically died while serving with his comrades in Afghanistan. Luciano Ciati a soldier from the RECCE platoon, 1st Battalion Royal Welsh in which Steve commanded had this amazing tattoo completed in Steve's honour today. It has taken a few weeks to complete and it was designed by Ciati himself. I feel it's an amazing tribute to an amazing Captain that was loved by all his men!

UK soldier killed in Afghanistan

A soldier from the 1st Battalion The Mercian Regiment (Cheshire) has been killed in Afghanistan, the Ministry of Defence has announced.The soldier was serving in the Nad-e Ali district of Helmand Province when he was injured in an attack by insurgents on Monday.In a statement the MoD said he had been flown to hospital for treatment "where, sadly, he succumbed to his wounds". Tributes are paid to Shropshire Military Cross hero

A war hero who was awarded a Military Cross while serving with the King’s Shropshire Light Infantry has died at the age of 92.Lieutenant Colonel Richard Evans, of Eyton, between Ludlow and Leominster, received the award after serving in Italy in 1944.In February 1944 he was in the Anzio beachhead serving for the 1st Battalion King’s Shropshire Light Infantry (1 KSLI) when they became under relentless shelling from German soldiers.Mr Evans was sent forward in darkness and pouring rain with orders to contact them, and by morning they were ready to face the enemy again. The citation for the award of the Military Cross paid tribute to Evans’ courage, cheerfulness and determination.Mr Evans was born in Eyton on January 15, 1920 and educated at Stowe and Worcester College, Oxford, where he read agriculture.He married Marian Cuff in 1965 and died peacefully in hospital on November 12 last year. After the outbreak of War, he was commissioned into the KSLI in November 1940.He saw active service with the 1st Battalion throughout the war, first as part of the First Army in North Africa and then during the diversionary attack on the island of Pantelleria, the assault landing at Anzio and the series of fierce battles which followed.Read more HERE  R.I.P
