Help for Royal Marines memorial

A PROUD son needs help to honour his father who spent almost 70 years in an unmarked grave. John Jennings was just 21 when the Germans bombed the makeshift hospital where he lay injured during the World War II. His family believe he was buried by Crete villagers eager to respect the bravery of unknown soldiers Now his son Jack, born four months after his father died, is overseeing the building of a memorial to honour him and 75 marines also killed in the Battle of Crete But the memorial, a wall fitted with memorial plaques, is costing 10,000 euros, around £9,100. Mr Jennings, of Crosby, hopes donations from other people connected to the Royal Marines will help the Royal Marines Association cover the cost.

Donations should be made to RMA (Crete) and sent to the association for the attention of Brigadier Hobson, Building 32, HMS Excellent, Whale Island, Portsmouth PO2 8ER.
