Cristina Kirchner's using Malvinas to deflect domestic problems

Well it seems that the Falkland Islands are back in the news once again and we have had previously secret papers released under the 30 year rule which seemed to reveal that old Ronnie was not such an Ally as we all thought and threatened to tell Argentina British troops were landing on South Georgia no doubt he would  have been under pressure from some quarters of congress and didn't want the Argentines turning to the Soviets at the height of the cold War. Remember the Americans did give us sidewinder missiles for our Harriers which were far superior to anything the Argies had and ensured we won the air battle even though we had a much smaller air force. Also we have Cristina Fernández de Kirchner's letter to David Cameron  claiming the Islands for Argentina. She can send as many letters as she wants but that wont change the fact that the Falkland Islands are British in some ways more British than the UK. It is no coincidence that Kirchner's popularity is at an all time low and she hopes to deflect domestic woes by shouting "Malvinas" as loud as she can, she is cashing in on the fact that for the first time in many years Argentine veterans of the Malvinas War in 1982 are now highly respected  by the Argentine public, this does not help the over 500 suicides that have sadly occurred. I am just glad that we did not have a Labour Government in power in 82 or the Argentine flag may have been flying over the Falklands for the last 30 years. In terms of the actual fighting a professional army should have the upper hand over a conscript counterpart and this was to be the case in 82. The Argentines did nothing to endear themselves to the Islanders by vandalizing their homes and using baths sinks and the floor as toilets. I can vouch for this as I and many of my fellow soldiers became very ill after having to clean up human faeces which resulted in us contracting dysentery  and having to be evacuated to the ferry St Edmund. I have also heard that in places like Goose Green about the appalling conditions that the locals were kept and men woman and children were threatened to be shot by some Fascist Argentine officers. They scattered land mines  around like confetti at a wedding and even pulled the pins from grenades and left them under cups as booby traps that a child could easily have picked up. They certainly did not behave like professional soldiers because they were not. The Islanders will never forgive them in a million years but they do want to live in peace with their Argentine neighbors as is their right to self determination.
