'Half-trained' British troops being rushed to fight the Taliban
A massive shortfall in troops ready for the battlefield in Afghanistan could mean that new Army recruits face having their combat training halved to meet demand.

(RG) This is absolutely ridiculous, its hard enough fighting in Afghanistan even after your full training, let alone rushing it. If they are not ready they are not ready and that’s it. If these lads get killed because of lack of training then its surely manslaughter on behalf of the MOD. We are dealing with human life here and cannot afford to get it wrong. What’s next from this incompetent bunch of pen pushers taking children straight out of school and putting them on a plane to Afghanistan with a brochure to read entitled “How To Fight The Taliban In Easy learning” They can learn to fire the SA80 when they get off the aircraft after a NAFFI break. Conscription anyone?

I wouldn't worry if they were being put on a troop transport fired by coal, and sent around the Cape of Good Hope, their NCOs could have them more ready in those months - but they will likely fly instead of marching or sailing to fight the Taliban. They will be better than half trained ANA troops and police. But not enough.
ReplyDeleteIt's difficult for my husband to read or hear about things like this because he wants so badly to go to Afghan. He's tried and tried but the Marines have felt he's needed elsewhere these past few years.
ReplyDeleteHe is obviously a very valuable asset to the Marines and as they have stated this War is going to go on for 30 years then he will probably get his wish. I wish him all the best and pray he stays safe, if you ask him he will say its `My Job` and he’s right.
ReplyDeleteI have just been contacted by a serving soldier who says that this story is totally false, I hope so.
