Lee Rigby's Funeral: Soldier 'A Gentle Soul'

The family of Drummer Lee Rigby, including his young son Jack, are applauded by mourners lining the streets to pay their respects.Thousands of people lined the streets and filled Bury town centre for the funeral of Drummer Lee Rigby, who was described as a "gentle soul" and "loving father".

Crowds applauded the murdered soldier's family and comrades as they arrived at the military service at Bury Parish Church.

Relatives hugged each other on the church steps before entering the church.His two-year-old son Jack wore a T-shirt with the words:  "My Daddy. My Hero" printed on the back.On the front of Jack's T-shirt were the words: "My Daddy's A Fusilier. Lee Rigby."The father-of-one was killed as he returned to Woolwich barracks from the Tower of London in May.

Drummer Rigby's fellow soldiers from 2nd Battalion Royal Regiment of Fusiliers (2RRF) held a two-minute silence in London as the funeral service began in Lancashire.

The 25-year-old soldier's body had been guarded by comrades overnight following a vigil on Thursday.

Prime Minister David Cameron and London Mayor Boris Johnson were among dignitaries attending the service in Bury.

As the crowds outside stood in the sweltering midday heat listening via loudspeakers, Drummer Rigby's friend and fellow soldier Sean Sheer gave a eulogy that brought laughter from mourners.

Mr Sheer said he first met Drummer Rigby when he was posted to the Fusiliers in 2008 and found him the "most annoying, campest man I have ever met", citing his singing and love of boyband Westlife as the reason.

Mr Sheer said his comrade's young son came "crashing" into his life but Lee "took to fatherhood instantly"  Read more  HERE

The drums are beating for one of our own
A brave drummer boy in Woolwich town
Attacked by strangers in the street
Lee Rigby died at the terrorists’ feet

He was a father, a son, and a man
He did not deserve such a death at their hands
They will not defeat us, they make us grow strong
Good over evil, right over wrong

For your death they will answer, our brave drummer boy
No stone unturned until we see them destroyed
There is no place on earth for those and their kind
Weak leading weak, blind behind blind

So rest now in peace dear soldier of ours
You rest in our hearts as the street fills with flowers
We salute you in death, but our promise is strong
We will keep your drum beating, on and on and on…

MY TRIBUTE TO THE MURDERED BRITISH SOLDIER LEE RIGBY

 

My tribute to Lee Rigby at my local War memorial, it was sad to see only couple of other bunches of flowers. "At the going down of the sun and in the morning we will remember Lee Rigby, R.I.P.

Woolwich Soldier attack: Lee Rigby named as victim

The murdered soldier has been named as 25-year-old Drummer Lee Rigby

The soldier killed in an attack on a London street has been named as Drummer Lee Rigby of the 2nd Battalion the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers.Drummer Rigby, 25, from Manchester, leaves behind a two-year-old son.Two men are under arrest in hospital after police shot them near Woolwich Barracks on Wednesday afternoon, in the aftermath of the attack.
The suspects, believed to include Michael Adebolajo, were known to security services, sources have said.
The victim's name was announced by the Ministry of Defence pending formal police identification.
"An extremely popular and witty soldier, Drummer Rigby was a larger than life personality within the Corps of Drums and was well known, liked and respected across the Second Fusiliers," the MoD statement said.
"He was a passionate and life-long Manchester United fan."He had joined the Army in 2006, and is described as a "loving father to his son Jack" and someone who would be "sorely missed by all who knew him".'Senseless murder'
Drummer Rigby had taken up a post with the Regimental Recruiting Team in London in 2011."An experienced and talented side drummer and machine gunner, he was a true warrior and served with distinction in Afghanistan, Germany and Cyprus," said 2nd Fusiliers commanding officer Lt Col Jim Taylor. "His ability, talent and personality made him a natural choice to work in the recruiting group."
Capt Alan Williamson said: "Drummer Rigby or 'Riggers' as he was known within the platoon was a cheeky and humorous man, always there with a joke to brighten the mood.Read More HERE   R.I.P.
