Hi my name is Staff Sergeant Anya Beeforth.
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page above.
I hope to raise considerable funds for Help For
Heroes by embarking on a 500 mile enforced march
from Poland to Fallingbostel, Germany. The
route replicates the journey taken by tens of
thousands of British and American Prisoners of
War during World War II, therefore tying
together the past and present heroics of our
British Army troops. Our veterans who marched
on the original journey did so in appalling
conditions, many suffered diseases such as
typhoid and diptheria or carried wounds
inflicted prior to and following capture. All
were seriously malnutritioned and had inadequate
clothing and equipment to protect them on their
journey during one of Germany's worst recorded
winters. The original marches were nicknamed
"The Shoe Leather Express" and in memory of our
veterans both living and dead this event will
carry the same name.
My husband, Captain Craig Beeforth, colleague,
Mrs Jen Armstrong and her husband Captain Tony
Armstrong will complete the journey with me.
Our aim is to walk the equivalent of at least a
marathon a day for 20 days with a completion
date of 16 Apr 09, when personnel from the
original journey will attend the annual
liberation ceremony at Fallingbostel military
camp.
All money raised goes direct to Help For Heroes,
