Para’s tread warily in Helmand province as they learn the skills of ‘going lethal’
The newly arrived troops from 2nd Battalion are eager for action, but first they must get to know their enemy in Taleban heartland
The British sniper lay on the rooftop of a compound within sight and range of about 20 Taleban armed with Kalashnikovs and rocket-propelled grenades in a dugout, and waited for the order to “go lethal”. He had already fired warning shots but the rounds from his long-range 338 rifle had failed to scare them from their bunker. Read It Here
(RG) There is certainly one thing a British Paratrooper is good at doing extremely good at doing and that is “going lethal”. It wont be long until the Taliban get to know these airborne Warriors very intimately indeed. If it comes to a scrap on the ground there is simply no contest, it’s the IEDs and roadside bombs that will inevitably do the damage. It looks like this is going to be another long War like Northern Ireland only the Army couldn’t exactly call in an Air strike in the middle of Belfast like we do in Helmand.
