. ''The willingness with which our young people are likely to serve in any war,no matter how justified, shall be directly proportional as to how they perceive the veterans of earlier wars were treated and appreciated by their nation'' --George Washington--

A REMF in the woodpile.
I hope you all had a good Christmas. My intentions were to put my post on of Full Metal Jacket and leave it for the day, but it never went that way. I popped back to see where Santa had got to on NORAD and checked my stats, which lead my me to the arrse forums , where someone who says they were ex military is going around the web bad mouthing me and veterans with PTSD , which is doubly upsetting this time of year when I remember Mickey who served with me in the Falklands war. I allowed myself to be dragged in by this sicko instead of ignoring him and when you suffer with PTSD this is not a good idea. The result was I spent yesterday in an anxious state and I neglected my partners and children and was consumed with hatred and revenge, which is exactly what he wanted. As I have said before when you do Blogs you can expect to be in the firing line, but from ex soldiers that’s another matter. I am not going to make any rash decisions yet but if incident like this can have such a detrimental effect on my health and family life then it might not be worth the hassle doing this Blog any longer, but then people like iain63 have won. If you need any confirmation what a sick bastard this iain63 is try Googling him, you will find some interesting content. Some of the comments I have received are way beyond the pale and if I had been in the vicinity of him yesterday I would surely be waking up in a Police cell this morning. Something just does not add up about this guy and I even have my doubts that he has even been in the British Army? I know that I have helped sufferers with PTSD and I will continue to help them. People like iain63 could just push a vulnerable ex servicemen over the edge. I would just like to wish you all a very healthy And prosperous New Year. Look at the photo above of iain63 , it says it all really. Oh yeah and apparently he thinks my poetry is `Childlike` so I will post a Christmas poem today, below.
The soldier sat in the packed bar all alone
Drinking his whiskey
Laughter and youthful exuberance filled the room
But could not penetrate the armour of his heart
His back against the wall giving him security
With all round defence
They never noticed him
He liked it that way
He was only there in body
His mind in a war 26 years gone
The same brown eyes staring into the nothingness
“Seasons greeting’s” he smiled at the empty glass.

ReplyDeleteI don't have the curse of PTSD but even I get flashbacks every now and then that leave me with the cold sweats. Mostly when I remember the near misses. So I think I have a very small window into what PTSD is like. Don't let an ignorant git beat you or stop you doing what you like.
