USS Enterprise Inactivated

Yesterday, we said goodbye to the USS Enterprise, the world’s first nuclear-powered aircraft carrier and the eighth United States naval vessel to bear that honored name. The only ship of her class, Enterprise was the second-oldest commissioned vessel in the United States Navy after the wooden-hulled USS Constitution.
Enterprise was commissioned in 1961 and after 51-years was retired from active service on Saturday, December 3, 2012 at her home port at Naval Station Norfolk amid a ceremony and gathering of great fan fare. Read more HERE



Its a shame the Royal  Navy couldn't take her over for a few more years , it would be nice to have a big old carrier like the Enterprise, whether we get our own is still debatable. It will be sad to a lot of Americans to see her go, but 51 years is a good spell protecting the United States Of America.
