Britain's lack of air power could allow Argentina to recapture the Falkland Islands, the British commander of land forces during the 1982 war has warned.
Former commander of the Royal Marines Major General Julian Thompson said it would be "end of story" if Argentine forces took the British base on East Falkland. Here

I can understand Major General Julian Thompson making these remarks as he is entitled. I would imagine it’s a lot to do with the frustration of watching our Armed Forces being seriously depleted. He is not the first high profile officer to make these comments I addressed General Jackson’s Here Lets not underestimate the forces we have on the Islands now. Take my old bits of Kit the Rapier, the ones deployed on the Falklands can track several aircraft at one time. How keen would the Argentinean navy be in sending an invasion force if there were a couple of hunter killer submarines lurking of their coast? Regardless of the military situation the Falkland Islanders want overwhelmingly to remain British, so if the Argentineans took the Islands they would have to forcibly send all the Islanders back to the UK or kill them! I think one solution to reinforce the Islands especially if they do become richer with the Gas & oil is enrol a few hundred ex Gurkhas into the FIDF. I know that the Argentineans were terrified of the Ghurkhas , well who wouldn’t be, the Taliban aren’t to keen on them either. To all you Arm chair Generals were was your criticism when you were still serving? Everybody loves an underdog , we have beaten them once and we will beat them again if we have too. Oh yeah plus we have nuclear weapons, I think unless Gordon Brown sold them to India when he was giving our gold away.
