Wednesdays Fire Mission (HE5)

Soldiers 'to face stress time bomb' If you think in my own intense eight weeks of combat in the Falkland Islands where we lost 255 KIA, we also lost over 300 to PTSD and suicide in the subsequent years. Many of these young men coming back from Afghanistan wont even realise that they have a problem yet. Obviously there are some that will continue mainly unaffected by their experiences of War, but there will also be a large proportion that will suffer from PTSD and other mental health conditions. Not only must we do more to help our boys on the battlefield we must also give priority mental health care to these brave men post combat, or we could see much higher suicides than the Falklands War, where even today 27 years later Falkland veterans sadly take their lives.
