Call for ban on war medals

Remembrance Day is traditionally a time for servicemen and women, veterans and members of the public to honour those lost in times of war.
Now Martin Gilbert, a member of Ulverston Peace Group, has called for Remembrance Day ceremonies to forgo medals and flags because they are “a glorification of war”.

(RG) I’m guessing Martin Gilbert doesn’t have any medals, enough said!

  4. My Grandfather helped liberate the NAZI concentration camp Dachau there were 200,000 prisoners
At this Hell hole, one third were Jews, my grandfather never spoke of the horrors hit witnessed and tried to get on with his life after WW2 but his War time experiences left their mark on him and he had regular nightmares up until the day he died. I will be proudly wearing my Grandfathers medals this year. These medals do not glorify War they stand for free men fighting against Evil and if it was not for men like my Grandfather the Martin Gilberts of this world would not have the right to make offensive and crass statements like this.

  5. Martin Gilbert does not deserve to be spoken of in the same breath as your Grandfather Pam.
