Tactical withdrawal begins for UK Troops.


As the soldiers from the 4 Rifles Battlegroup completed their move from Basra Palace to the Contingency Operating Base at Basra Airport yesterday, the Battlegroup's Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Patrick Sanders, reflected on the time he and his troops spent at the city base.

Attacked by rogue militias on a regular basis, the battlegroup suffered the sad loss of eleven of their number, with many more injured. For Lt Col Sanders the departure from Basra Palace brought mixed emotions: Read It Here

(RG) However the British Government tries to portray events this week in Basra this is the beginning of the end for the British army in Iraq, maybe not this year but not certainly in the not to distant future. All this bullshit about the Yanks being shocked by the Brits leaving is ridiculous we would not do anything in Iraq without informing the American administration first. Bush new this was on the cards. Lets just hope we keep enough Royal Engineers in Iraq to keep the airport serviceable for when the Union flag finally is lowered for the last time. Brown needs every swinging dick in the field for Afghanistan.
