The royal navy retired its fleet of Sea Harrier FRS2's in 2006, replacing with the RAFs GR7as/9 aircraft. this video shows the life of the sea harrier from the early days when the RAF sent some GR1s for testing on board the carriers HMS Ark Royal and Eagle. following succesful completion of the trials the Royal Navy retired its large aircraft carriers however the government aproved funding for the 'through-deck crusisers' named the invinsible class. these carriers, Invincible, Illustrious and the Hermes were equiped with the Sea Harrier FRS1 which saw action in the Falklands campain. Following lessons learned in the air battle over the falklands the Sea Harriers were upgraded to the FRS2 version. The main improvements were in the avionics and weapon systems. The FRS2 could carry the American made AMRAAM missile allowing it to engage targets beyond visual range, therefore increasing the pilots chance of survival.

In recent years the Royal Navy has taken a step backwards and has replaced its air defence aircraft with the ground attack variant of the Harrier, seen towards the end of the video.
