Tributes are paid at funeral of Albert Joyner, 102, Britain's oldest former Royal Marine

A final emotional farewell has been paid to the country’s oldest surviving former Royal Marine. The village church where he worshipped was packed today for the funeral service of Albert Joyner. Appropriately, among the medals on the ensign-draped coffin was a wreath of poppies. Mr Joyner, who died earlier this month aged 102, had raised thousands of pounds collecting in Keighley for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal. His Legion colleagues, former and serving marines and young cadets were present atRiddlesden United Reformed Church to give their comrade a fitting send-off. Hundreds Gather In Support Of Former Royal Marine Convicted Of Murder

Police estimate more than 600 people have joined a rally calling for the release of a Royal Marine Sergeant, jailed for murdering an Afghan man. Alexander Blackman was given a minimum term of 10 years when he was convicted in 2013 for shooting an injured Taliban insurgent. An appeal against his conviction was rejected in May last year but the jail term was reduced to a minimum of 8 years. His supporters want the case reopened, claiming there is new evidence shows Marine Blackman should have faced the lesser charge of manslaughter. Today they gathered in their hundreds on Parliament Square, many of them veterans creating a small sea of green berets in the heart of Westminster. Anger as Falklands war veteran dies with no apology

FRIENDS and family of a marine veteran who died from cancer while battling the state over benefits have told of their dismay he was never given an apology. Gordon Lang, who lived in Gosport, was in the middle of a fight with the Department for Work & Pensions after being told to work while unwell.Read More HERE

Royal Marine shot dead in Afghanistan

A Royal Marine from 42 Commando Royal Marines has died in Helmand, Afghanistan, after he was shot in an ambush while on patrol. The Ministry of Defence said he and fellow soldiers were patrolling with members of the Afghan National Army when the shooting happened. Read more HERE R.I.P.
