Tom's Story
Tom Coleridge is a son of Warrington. He was brought up along with his sister Katie in Penketh by his proud parents Garry and Julie. Tom attended the Sacred Heart and Saint Gregory's School where he excelled in sports, which included American football, basketball, and of course football. Tom is an avid supporter of the Washington Redskins and likes to think of himself as LFC’s biggest football fan.
Tom is your typical eighteen year old who is always happy go lucky and fun to be around, everyone who knows tom describe him as having a heart of gold with a cheeky smile that would light the darkest room, and because of that big wide white smile he is also affectionately known as Captain Colgate! Tom has been a soldier ever since he got his first fancy dress uniform at the age of five, and it was a natural step for tom to enlist and build himself a military career. On the 14th of June 2009 Tom eagerly joined the 1st Duke of Lancaster regiment and began his military training, and on learning of his posting to Afghanistan after training, Tom was keen to get over there and help make a difference for the innocents caught up in the struggle with the Taliban. On the 10th July this year just a few weeks into his first tour of Afghanistan, Tom was out on patrol with his unit in the Helmand province when they were ambushed. It was a heavy attack and sadly Tom took a bullet in the right hand side of his abdomen, the bullet tore through his stomach and into his spine, tom’s legs then went from under him and he went down. Even though Tom knew he’d been hit he never lost courage and returned fire to keep his buddies safe, and he carried on fighting until reinforcements and medics arrived and he was medevaced out to safety.
