Hands up if you think that our politicians deserve a medal?…… Well it seems that they have decided to award themselves medals for the Heroic acts of a whistle-stop visit to highly secure British bases in Afghanistan whilst being protected by a large team of former SAS bodyguards. This has got to be another one of those `You couldn’t make it up moments` I don’t know whether to be angry or laugh at this pathetic selfish gesture. So lets get this right, you can pop into Bastion for a cup of tea and a chat and get a medal , but if you are a front line British soldier putting his life on the line for up to six months at a time and you are unfortunate to have your legs and arms blown off, you receive the same medal as everyone else. I’m not saying our brave wounded soldiers want medals, but this latest insult from the fiddlers in parliament is a kick in the teeth when the War is unpopular plus politicians have never been held in such lowest esteem for centuries. How big and shiny should the medal be for Geoff Hoon the former defence secretary who delayed ordering enhanced body armour shortly before the invasion or Iraq because ministers did not want to alert the public to their preparations and stoke opposition to war? Perhaps we should give Hoon a medal for every British soldier that was killed due to his negligence. I’m sure Gordon Brown thinks he and his whole party deserve a medal for bringing our Country and especially our Armed forces to the brink of collapse. There will be many leaders around the globe in Countries that harbour terrorists that would shower them in gongs as they have never felt so secure from British forces, top of the list being the Iranians after our navy was publicly humiliated. Don’t forget when your emptying your desks and shredding your expenses when you lose the election not to leave anything shiny lying around.
