The 'weekend warriors' risking their lives

A FEW years ago, the Territorial Army was affectionately known as the "weekend warrior" brigade. Although not exactly derided by the regular Army, it was regarded by many as a bunch of keen part-timers, amateurs who never really had the stomach for full-time service.

(RG) At the end of the day they might be part time but they are still soldiers and as such trained to do what soldiers do and that is fight Wars amongst other things. I think its slightly unfair to say they `are amateurs who never really had the stomach for full-time service`. In my experience the TA is made up of young men who would like to have a go at the Regular Army but want to see if they can hack the TA first, also there are a smattering of ex regular soldiers who after leaving the military miss the camaraderie and try to recapture this with the TA, I was one of those soldiers. There are also a few five minute wonders who wander about like Rambo with all the gear but no balls to go with it. Overall the TA has never been more professional and a major asset the British Military. Like the Regular army they need more investment in them after they have been operational to retain highly trained men & woman. See even I have put a good word in for the STABS. Seriously some of these men have seen more action than a lot of regular army soldiers.
