Bad Voodoo's War

United States of America

In June 2007, as the American military surge reached its peak, a band of National Guard infantrymen who call themselves the "Bad Voodoo Platoon" was deployed to Iraq. To capture a vivid, first-person account of the new realities of war in Iraq for FRONTLINE and ITVS director Deborah Scranton (The War Tapes) created a "virtual embed" with the platoon, supplying cameras to the soldiers so they could record and tell the story of their war. The film intimately tracks the veteran soldiers of "Bad Voodoo" through the daily grind of their perilous mission, dodging deadly IEDs, grappling with the political complexities of dealing with Iraqi security forces, and battling their fatigue and their fears.

  3. "Thanks for the shout out, and while I understand Tapline's (and your) wariness, there are a few things I can set straight --- first, based on my earlier film THE WAR TAPES the guys from Bad Voodoo asked me to make a film on them to tell their story. And, WGBH/Frontline wanted to let the guys tell their own story -- through their eyes as they saw it. There was no editorial strong arming going on...this was/is their experience.

You don't have to take my word, on the website under videos click on the one that says 'the making of' when you roll your mouse over it and hear it from the guys themselves...

  4. Thank you for you e-mail Deborah. Once a man has seen the Elephant he may describe it as a savage killer beast or a beautiful peaceful animal, he has earned his choice.
