Remembrance Sunday
As you will know yesterday was Remembrance Sunday and I turned out for the Remembrance service at Barrow,Im pleased to report that was very well attended. It was freezing cold but luckily the rain kept away. After reading recently about Martin Gilbert a member of Ulverston Peace Group who has called for Remembrance Day ceremonies to forgo medals and flags because they are “a glorification of war”, I attended the ceremony at Ulverston not to Glorify war but to remember the fallen. I consider Martin Gilberts comments to be insulting and offensive to suggest men who have witnessed War at first hand to be branded in this way. One aspect to the day which gave me food for thought was Ulverstons RBL small but very hard working band of men and woman. I was told by one member that the group gets smaller every year, the sad thing is many younger ex servicemen are reluctant to become involved and may wrongly view the RBL as something their grandfather would do.The service at the Catholic church was very moving and there was only standing room at the back. I have posted some photos from the day above.

On Sunday I attended a Remembrance Day ceremony out here in one of the ex-colonies. It was pretty well-attended, especially considering how long it's been since the locals served in in Commonwealth forces in any numbers.
