General Sir Michael Jackson loses his stiff upper lip

As Generals go I have always considered General Sir Michael Jackson one of the better ones. But then militarily speaking what do I know, I’m the equivalent in football terms to a British  Sunday pub team and Jackson being Barcelona, but like the pub team that doesn't stop me having an opinion especially on a subject that has dominated my life for the last thirty years The Falkland Islands. I think for an experienced man like him to say Britain faces an 'impossible' battle if Argentina invades is in my opinion a defeatist attitude and you  should never give  succor to your enemy, even if the facts of your military strength may lead you to believe it may be extremely difficult as all Wars are never a stroll in the park are they? Imagine during World War Two Winston Churchill writing in the Times an article a few days before the battle of Britain basically conceding we should all start to learn German. Even if you think it, you don’t say it. Its not good for moral and its certainly not good for the nerves of the Falkland Islanders. The only party that gains any comfort from his words are the Argentineans. What Mike says about our Harrier fleet being sold of and our appalling lack of aircraft carriers is undoubtedly true and as we know all Senior officers always want more to do the job. I would be happy at this time with `sufficient` forces and I believe we do have those and we can successfully  defend the Falklands. If the Argentines fought half as hard as they throw insults at Britain we would be in trouble, but the truth is they do not have a stomach for another humiliating defeat and they also cannot afford it. It is another exercise in political sabre rattling and more to do with staying in office than any ridiculous claim to a group of Islands that have been British long before Argentina even existed as a Nation. A bully always believes if he shouts louder  and intimidates his victims he will get what he wants as is the case at the moment. Getting back to Mike its much easier for him to state his opinions once he  has hung up his uniform and safely banked his huge  pension, what he should be saying is “Keep calm and carry on.” The Falklands is just topical due to the anniversary, next year it will go back to the occasional mention especially if a Royal visits, perhaps William might like it so much he will take Kate their for a holiday What say you Cristina Fernández de Kirchner?
