Rifleman Gurung knew only two existences. One was the little village in western Nepal where he was brought up among the mountain peaks. The other was the British Army.
Thaman Gurung had no special interest in what had brought him to northern Italy in late 1944, nor in his enemy, the Germans.

We aren't smart enough to hire Gurkhas nor establish a real Foreign Legion - there are still some backwoods boys and misled punk gangbangers that see the light and want to visit exotic places in defense of Liberty... or some such.. they (the nations that don't know and could care less) will miss us (their warriors and our traditions) when we are gone - we are dying out, out there.
